Description

1996 Maico RE440 Very Rare Collector Item, Restored, Very Fast.
This is a 1996 Rodem-Maico RE440 with optional enduro Lighting kit and USFS approved spark arrestor.  It was owned and occasionally ridden by a middle aged man who was part owner of a local Suzuki dealership here in Colorado.  He was my primary sponsor in my early road racing days.  He ran into a bit of a square footage dilemma 10 or 12 years ago and asked me to store some bikes, indoors, for him.  Sadly, he passed 3 years ago.  This is one of those bikes.  It's little used.  Notice the paint on the frame above the foot pegs.  No boot rub.  Also, these are the OEM Metzler Unicross tires with most of the tread left.
Some features on this beautiful 440 are an O'Neal Easy Clutch, a 40mm Keihin flat slide carburetor, and a mild port and polish.
What follows is a list of things I have done to prepare it for sale:
- De-carbon the exhaust pipe, and exhaust power valve/slider
- Clean and re-pack silencer and spark arrestor
- De-oxidize and polish every piece of exposed metal on the entire bike
- Disassemble, clean, re-pack and reassemble all suspension and swing arm linkage (No Slop!)
- Remove engine, de-grease and clean thoroughly then re-install
- Check all fasteners and re-torque as needed
- Replace fork oil (71/2 wt, 190 mm from top of collapsed stanchion tube)
- Replaced the coolant, transmission oil, brake fluids, and air filter
- Acrylic veneer then wax all plastic
- Insulate / wrap the exhaust pipe where it contacts the air box and/or leg
This is what the bike still needs:
-Fork seals, ran out of time to track them down.  They measure 45x58x8.5-11
-Headlight bulb, presumably.  No lights
- Fresh brake pads.  Plenty of meat left but they need to re-seat
Spare plastic and some parts are included.
This is a rare find.  It is not a beginner's ride, it is VERY VERY STRONG.  If you are not well in touch with your right wrist, beware.
I would hope, in memory of my friend, that this bike finds a happy enthusiast and a warm garage.
